about 4 months ago a problem started where after the computer being on for awhile. going to play a game the monitor would just go black, the computer would still be running fine and i could hear everything.

if i hit ctrl-alt-del the picture would come back and it would work for awhile..

later on when it would happen the picture would come back but be really faded then just go black again..i could keep doin this hit ctrl-alt-delete but usually i would just have to reset the computer to get it to come back. also now it will do it going to certain websites or watching videos, not just gaming

most of the time this fixes it..sometimes it would still flicker and go black after reset and id have to reset it a few more times.

im not sure if this is a monitor issue or my video card or maybe psu?

i only have a 450 watt rosewill and its about 3 years old now.

my specs are
e4500 oced to 2.8ghz
4mb ddr2
ati 6850 latest driver.
samsung 2232bw+ about 2 years old

thanks.

My understanding is that a 450W power supply is a little small for a 6850. AMD recommends at least 500W...

If you've got a fair amount of DDR2 and an OC'ed processor, that may very well be the culprit.

I've seen this kind of thing happen with cards that undergo a thermal shutdown, so you might try checking your temps as well.

Last, but not least, make sure your cabling is secure between the card / monitor. It's a silly thing to check, but if it's just coming loose, it could save you a lot of trouble.

that poor 6850 will never get a chance to shine with that old cpu. you could have bought a 5750 and never known the difference.

yeah I have a feeling Intel will be much happier than AMD come Wednesday.
