i recently had a crash due to either spyware or a virus of some type. i reformatted the hard drive and loaded the software back. i run windows xp and have an ati radeon 9200 graphics card. when i went into a multiplayer game after running for a minute or two it would kick me out and an error message would read "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands." i re-installed my graphics drivers and the problem persists. i downloaded updates and no relief! what needs to be done??

its old school PCI, but i did try to download the Direct X 9.0. for some reason it did not install correctly... i guess i'll try that again and see if it works.

this may be a bit risky, but cant you turn off the VPU recovery? before you try that try to install previous versions of DX, try 7. also open the DXDIAG and see if you can get more info from there

**edit**
can we see your system spec?
