hey guys I need help getting this problem fixed. I have tried everything but cant figure out problem. First of all heres the components to my pc

AMD 1.2
Asus A7V133
Asus Geforce GTS2 deluxe
256mb crucial ram
Quantum 40gb ata100
SB x-gamer

Ok the problem starts when im playing a game, about 10 minutes into counterstrike all of a sudden the game freezes and the sound keeps looping. So far I have updated bios to 1004, installed latest promise drivers, installed via 4in1 4.29v driver, installed detenator 3 drivers. But I still keep freezing for some reason. I tried formatting and doing a clean install but im still getting same thing. I have tried uninstalling via and promise drivers thinking maybe that was the problem but still nothing. I even tried uninstalling detenator3 and using asus7700 graphics driver. I dont think its a heat problem, im using FOP32-1 with arctic silver compound and temp is idle at 50c. Any help is greatly appreciated

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

update

so far I have tried everything I have think of and still getting same thing.

tried sound card in every pci slot
changed agp to 2x and 1x
changed agp apeture size to 32 (i think i spelled that wrong)
reinstalled via drivers, tried 4.28 and 4.29
reinstalled promise driver
formated again
updated sound card drivers
changed primary vga to AGP instead of PCI

I dont think its a heat problem since smart doctor is telling me the card is fine. This problem is really starting to piss me off. Sometimes it takes longer to freeze then before 10-20 min. Im thinking of only one thing i could do and thats to flash the bios to a older version, Im currently on 1004. Anybody think that would help????
btw the system isnt overclocked and is running under WIN98SE

:(

List your irq settings...Seems like a hardware conflict...

I agree the heat seems on target for that board...

No...I mean give me a list of irq addresses and the devices that are using them...

Go to control panel, system, device manager, highlight computer, click properties...read that list.

There is the problem I think...SBlive does not like to share...Your usb controller is loading up in irq5 with it....go into bios and tell it where to load usb (if that is the option)...In my mobo I had to tell the bios not to asign them that I would and that way I was able to isolate and direct placement.

Do you use both com ports...most don't, got a ps2 mouse, most likely...disable com ports it will free two extra irq's...get that ethernet card to load in its place.

In summary SBLive wants to have its own address...make sure nothing else shares its place.

I had a similar problem on old computer I had, would freeze at desktop though. Moved sb live to irq 10 and that solved the problem. Also there's bios 1007 for your board. Won't fix problem, but did fix something about the promise controllers, and I noticed you said you had one.

http://www.asus.com.tw/products/motherboard/bios_socka.html#a7v

Also in bios it should have option to assign irq for your pci slots. Forgot exactly what it says, but that's how I fixed my problem. Find which slot it's in then disable it in the bios. You can then go into device manager and manually assign irq10.

I agree irq 10 is free and probably easier to move to then other idea...however look into other comments...It is definitely a hardware conflict with the soundcard.

Try going into the bios, then go to PNP/PCI configuration. It should list something like this

Slot 1 Use Irq: Auto
Slot 2 Use Irq: Auto
Slot 3 Use Irq: Auto
and so on....

Find which slot it's in then go to that slot, and change Auto to 10. Save and exit, then see if it lists irq10 for your sound card in device manager. If it does then play the game again and see if it persists.

another problem emerged now. The USB mouse i have wont turn on when windows starts. I have to disconnect it and plug in it again. I think its the IRQ problem with the NIC card, can one of you guys please help me assign the NIC card to another irq or the usb controller.

thank you

Go into bios and where serial ports are (I think peripherals) they are enabled just disable them...If you just remove it in windows it will redetect it each time.

Do same as befor find slot the nic card is in and switch from auto to irq 4 or 3...should work. My modem is on irq 3 after I disabled the ports.

In my bios I can auto assign the usb controllers to a particular irq...If not try to do it in windows system device manager...go to settings and try to change irq...then reboot if it comes back up in the same irq as before the change then the bios is definitely assigning it...you will have to turn that off or in my case as listed above I had to tell bios in one of the submenus that I the user will assign the irqs (obviously not same wording).

I had my usb sharing an irq at first and it didn't cause a problem...however it was not a mouse...I have heard of a usb update fix through microsuck that is supposed to correct bug with via chipsets that effects some sort of timing issue...dunno for sure. Did you have problems when it was sharing with sound card and nic card? Very odd.

Well I couldn't change mine in windows, but that may be because I assigned it in bios...try it though and if it tells you no then you know bios has something to override it.

Go to control panel...system...device manager...highlight the via usb universal host controller...click properties...click resources tab...uncheck automatic setting...highlight irq...click change settings
