denon, if you're interested in a 2.1 setup, you won't beat the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's. I recently ordered a set from outpost.com, and they arrived the next day. I replaced a Boston Acoustics MicroMedia (now called BA790) 2.1 setup, and the Klipsch PM's blow them away, both in sound quality and volume.

If however, you want a 4.1 setup, then you should consider other options. Right now the prevailing thought of most on the forum is the Boston Acoustics BA4800, which you can pick up for approx. $150. I would avoid the original Klipsch v2.400 system, as it had some issues (out of production now, but still floating around out there ). Klipsch replaced the v2.400 w/ the 4.1, and that's selling for approx. $300.

If you want 2.1 for $200 or less you can't beat those.

The BA4800 for $150 from outpost.com are a great choice if you want surround, but if you are just looking for 2.1 then those are the best choice (VideoLogic Sirocco Pros maybe, but I think they are like $750 ;))

The best 2.1 speakers available imo are the Labtec Pulse-424, the sound quality is great and they can be found for around $40!

labtec???? better than klipsch??? you must be on crack, or maybe just deaf...I dunno but I have never heard a better pair of speakers for the computer than the klipsch ones. They blow all the competition away in quality.

frover2000, a little sweeping in our statements, aren't we? I agree that $200 is a lot for a computer speaker system. But, if you haven't heard the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's, you haven't heard what computer speakers are capable of.

I bought them, after being very satisfied w/ my Boston Acoustics, because 1) I don't do games or DVD, so I don't need/want surround, 2) I don't have room in my home office for a 4.1 system, or a stereo receiver/speaker setup. If I did have the room, I would have bought a stereo receiver and hooked up my Infinity POSII 10" 2 way speakers.

All you need to do is hear the thx wave theme audio clip on the Klipsch PM 2.1's to know nothing else (save the VideoLogic Sirocco Pros) has the range and power of the PM's.

I guess if you have the money buy Klipsch, but if you want good speakers at a very good price, the Labtec Pulse-424s can't be matched.

But then again, if you have the money why not get the Klipsch system with 4 satellites for just $50 more.

the Cambridge Soundworks 4-speaker setup (around $100 I think) sounds incredible. They don't have a very appealing appearance (very simple look), but they sound really really good for the money. Nice sub, very rich sounding satellites. If you're looking to save just a few bucks, I'd say to go that way.
