Need help picking out a new LCD monitor

I'm looking at getting a 19in LCD to replace my current monitor. I will be watching a lot of DVDs and playing a lot of games, so I'm a little concerned about ghosting. I don't play many FPS though, mainly slower games like Diablo 2 and WCIII.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

What is your price range? The Samsung 191T and soon to be released Samsung 192T/Planar 191 look like good choices. I have heard a lot of good things about the Dell 2000FP as well, but if you are really a gamer you want to go with a CRT instead.

I've decided to wait on the new monitor, I think. I want an LCD because my desk is fairly small and I could use the room. My price range is around $600. I checked out the 191T at BB the other day, played WC3 on it, and decided it had far too much ghosting for the price. I think I may wait for one more generation of monitor, so that I can get a 19in LCD with a 16ms response time. I haven't looked at a 16 ms LCD yet, but I hear they have no detectable ghosting. Thanks for the help, though.

Just got the Viewsonic VP171B LCD with a 16ms response time and while there is basically no ghosting, having to set the lcd at native resolution (1280x1024) for every game really limits your options while gaming. CS doesn't even support that resolution in 1.5 so I might even return the new lcd and eat the 15% restocking fee. Will most likely switch back to my Sony CRT even though it takes up tons of room.

The floor samples at BB Are probably awful. Did it have a DVI or analog connection? Did you adjust the monitor yourself? I think its an excellent monitor for 600.

As for 16ms response times 'eliminating' ghosting, I have yet to see compelling evidence. Even when a 16ms and a 25ms monitor is placed next to one another I have trouble detecting the difference.

Cheers,

I'm ashamed to say I didn't check out the connection in the back. Nor did I try to adjust it myself. How would I go about adjusting the monitor so as to minimize ghosting? The colors on it were definitely beautiful, I was just concerned that when I moved around quickly in WC3, there was what I would consider significant ghosting. Certainly more than I would want to put up with in the middle of a battle.

Also, what happens when you want to play a game (Like CS 1.5) that doesn't support the native resolution?

Kristopher,

Have you seen or heard about the new 16ms panel from LG? I'm referring to the panel that's made by LG themselves, not AU Optronics. Just curious.

It depends on the game and the monitor. My native resolution is 1280x1024 but 1024x768 and even 800x600 look fine too. I play most games at the native resolution but Q3 doesn't look right at 1280 so I play it at 1024 and it still looks fine.

I don't play CS but its graphics are old and crummy anyway so nothings gonna help there. :p

I even set the desktop to 1024 because the fonts were just too tiny for most webpages and that's the resolution I'm used to. It's not as sharp as the native res but it still looks really really good.

BTW, I have the NEC 1760NX.
