Hello all, I am in a market for a new 2.1 speaker system. Any recommandations? So far, I have been reading good reviews for Klipsch Promedia GMX A 2.1 and Logitech Z-2300. Does anyoen have other reccomandations?

I haven't heard the GMX series, but I think I've heard that the original Promedia set is superior to the GMX set.

If you're not a bass freak and are more into clarity and quality, check out the Swan M200s. They are made by a very nice speaker company and are a cheap and easy way to get a good bookshelf speaker type setup going. You can add a sub to it later if you want to.

You could also actually get a set of bookshelf speakers and a stereo receiver or integrated amplifier. It's going to be hard to get something of very good quality for ~$150 for the whole set, but if you're willing to buy used, you could get a pretty decent bookshelf system going with the oportunity to upgrade down the road.

I do not plan to build a massive speaker system, all I need is a simple 2.1 with good sound. That is why I came down to either the logitech or the klipsch, because these two speakers are getting great review from editors and users. Why do you think BOSE sucks? I know they are very overpriced. The companion 3 is listed for 249. Do you think they suck because their high price, or do they simply suck in terms of soudn quality?

It's a link, click and read up.

EDIT: if their $2500 systems cost $400 I wouldn't care, but people buy them thinking it's the best money can buy and there are plenty of salespeople telling them that's the truth too.

When I mention this (or another bookshelf speaker pair), how much should I tell them to expect to pay for an integrated amp or old receiver off ebay to power them well?

I've mentioned bookshelf speaker systems to people in the past and know you're good at picking out old amps for them. I'm wondering how much you can get a quality one for on Ebay.

I love my EV SonicXS speakers.
They're harder to find than the other run of the mill 2.1's, but they're worth it. I found my set on ebay for $67 (NIB) shipped. I just bought a set (NIB), for a friend, from said auction site for $97 shipped.

Cool. I had been thinking $50 to $100 was a reasonable thing to tell people. Was $80 an incredible deal, or is that pretty typical?

Incredible given its condition.

My default reccomendation is a Marantz 1060. I've seen em in action, they're common, but I can't support anyone's endeavors with em cause I don't own one, and haven't managed to grab the schematics yet. But they can be had for a decent price and put out a true 30wpc.

I see....

Are there pretty good options for people in the $50-$100 range though? Like the OP for example?
