For 15.4" I think the Toshiba or Asus is your best bet. The Z71v would be my choice: cost effective 'cuz you can order barebones and add your own parts. Also Asus makes great machines. I would check out http://www.geared2play.com or http://www.proportable.com. Not sure if they ship to Canada tho

For 17", Dell 9300 no doubt! Altho, does Dell ship to Canada?

DOH

You know the Z71v is 15.4", right?

RE-EDIT Oh, you said 14.1 or greater; hehe

crappy, i really would like a 6800 or something like that, oh well better get a x700 or a 6600 then. Both should be the same abouts for battery life i would assume

In my 3 years of college experience thus far, I tend not to pick up and take my laptop anywhere except the library a few times a week and then back home. I have an HP dv1000 that's 5.5lbs with the battery, but beastly men like us can manage the 9300's 7.85lbs :)

Unless you're going to take notes in class on it....I didn't do that because I would've been setting myself up to be distracted ;)

agreed, i guess i could get a back back carrying case? That might work good. The 9300 only weighs 7.85 pounds? I was worried it would be over 9... Lookn more and more attractive by the day

Just got mine in the mail today and it is indeed light for its size. It's by no means thin, though.

Also, I hear battery life won't be tooo great because of the go6800, but I'll test that out for you and post what I get in here. Should be at most 3 hours with correct power management. I also bought the 9 cell battery as well :)

In-depth 9300 review (including 3D performance, batt life, and overclocking):

I did the automatic overclocking of my GPU and got ~4300 3d marks in '05. Didn't leave it like that though. With the 6 cell battery, with light usage (what else would you do while running on battery?) I got about 2.5 hours (Word and Web browsing). On the 9 cell I got about 3.5 hours. I then watched a DVD on the 9 cell and I was able to do about 3 hours constant.
