just went to orientation over wknd, need to figure out an elective course to take. can be either upper or lower div.
just need it for unit purposes.
currently thinking to take either poli sci 125, communication studies 101.
not into math, science, art stuff.
with the limited choices, what are some easy courses (yea i know all classes are hard, but what are the easy ones that are available?
i'm in econ dept so any econ/management related courses won't do it as i'm taking 2 econs in fall.
anyone who can help me would be greatly appreciated 🙂
also names of prof to avoid would be great

I actually wonder how many people are in UCLA at Anandtech. 🙂

I know what a pain in the tuckus it can be to pick courses though and still have to add one before next semester starts. 🙁 Good luck though!

Linguistics 1 with Professor Schuh is a good class. Really easy (1 assignment a week, one 4 page paper, one final, one book to read)

If you want an easy upper division class go with Ethnomusicology 117 with Prof. Keyes.

My 2 cents...

are you a transfer student or freshman?

i'll be taking ps 125. arms control. what SUCKS is that the professor that had been teaching it left ucla. she was one of the best profs i've ever had. very energetic.

comm 100 or 101 are the core comm classes, therefore, on the boring side.

music history 134 - the american musical. 😀 i'll be taking music history 5 - the history of rock and roll for a humanities GE.

bio40: aids
soc1: intro to sociology
history of electronic dance music (don't remember #)
econ1
econ2
obee10: history of plants in civilizations (or something like that)
philosophy 7: phil of mind?
phil 21: skepticism
phil 31: logic
statistics10: intro
psych15
psych10
english something: great books
comm10

all of these classes are super easy. enjoy 🙂

i like the enrollment system at ucla. it's all online and so convenient. can you imagine doing all this by looking through a booklet, then standing in line for hours at murphy hall to talk to a counselor to enroll? they used to do that back in the day.

lol frontlinewarrior has got all the easy classes down!

since ur not into science and stuff, I would highly recommend philosophy 7 or 32 - for me it was one midterm, one final - both takehome 2-3pg papers!! lol

i'm transfer junior, thats how i can take the upper div.
just lookin for easy course to fill up units. (upper or lower)
completely not into psych, phil done econs as i'm bizecon major. and i hate writing hehe. will look into others mentioned.
completely agree with warrior, online is the way to go for everything!
i was in a phil course (like for couple days at my JC, that stuff completely "turned me off&quot😉

psych 10 , and music 15. i still got a C in psych 10, i spent way too much time trying not to fail electcial engineering 1 (got a c- woohoo). I'm taking music 15 next year. hope thats as easy as i've heard it is. i need a gpa boost. also the athletes are all in history of california, might wanna take that .

Also a guy i know at ucla wrote an automatic schedule maker for ucla and university ot texas. go to

www.bigtacocity.com

also, i know that there is a site that rates various professsors for a bunch of univs, lost that url anyone know it?

want an easy A? Take Astro 3!

Other GPA boosters are Pysch 10, Pysch 15, Anthropoly, PIC 1. etc..

Good luck. My GPA at UCLA would suck if not for those classes.

i'm thinking of chinese, i can listen and speak it, jsut not write/read, not sure how their entrance exam works.
looked at the communcation 10 course, the meorization stuff is giving me the cold shoulder (from that prof evaluation site here
took equivalent of psych 10 already.

take phil31: logic. that class is mostly like math, except you use symbols. it's really easy and really kick back. when i had that class, it was one midterm, one final. there was some homework too, but it was pretty fun. not hard, and not much work.

MicroBio 6 is easy if you're good at (and will do some) brute force memorization/regurgitation. Unfortunately I hate that.. hence I didn't do so hot in that class.

I would recommend Ethnomusicology 120A and 120B, History of Jazz, taught by professor Gerald Wilson. Not only is the class relatively easy, 1 midterm, 1 final, and 1 paper, the man is quite a figure in Jazz History and has an incredible memory.

Though I must say there is a bit of memorization involved too, but I thought it was far more interesting that cell crap.

yeah that prof has pretty good ratings on uclaprofs.com

you will have to take a test. since you can listen and speak, most likely they won't let you start at chinese one, and put you in 3R, which is intensive reading and writing, and after that course they send on to 5 or 6 methinks.

its an easy course as long as you're willing to memorize. suman is a great professor though. it was a fun class to take. but seriously, all the "easy" lower division courses means that not a lot of thinking needs to be put into a lot of it. mcd bio 40 has the rep for being one of the easiest classes on campus but there's still a lot of memorization involved. if you don't study you won't do well.

on the other hand, i've been told that ling 1 you can do NOTHING and still ace the class. my kind of class 😛

yeah, you need to memorize a ton for psych 10. Pic10 i would think would be super easy if you were a l&s major and had ANY programming background. I have helped a ton of people with that, and all 3 classes are 15 units , and its some of the easiest programming i've ever seen. I'd say its easier than AP CS in high school by far

hmm do nothing...
what exactly do u do in ling 1? Anyone who knows more about it care to explain it w/ who u took it w/? format of course etc?

where would PIC courses be located in the general catalog?
(trying to find course description) if it is CS 10, then i'd forego it.
and already taken psych 10 equivalent so can't take it again.

The Chinese courses are pretty easy, but there's a ton of work involved. There will be lot's of homework and there will be class 5 days/week. I really don't think it's worth the time and effort for a useless class.

Don't take Lingusitics. I really hated that class. I really can't say more than that coz I don't remember what happened in that class. It was boring as hell. I think there was a midterm and a final. And there's tons of homework also. I took this class pass/no pass and I think I barely passed 🙂.

I would've committed suicide if I didn't pass this class and had to repeat it.

Take PIC 1 (Program in Computing), you learn stupid crap like how to use Word, Excel, etc...

Anyone in this forum should have no trouble.
