Need Help, PC won't boot

Troubleshooting starter

1. Overview of the problem
   Computer will not boot.
   
   
2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
   When I came home from work yesterday my computer screen was completly blank. I rebooted and Windows prompted me to either boot up in safe mode or normal mode b/c of an abnormal shut down. I chose normal mode. I got the user selection screen. When I click on my user icon the screen went blank again and never recovered. I rebooted again. When I reboot, the desktop normally beeps, gives me the option to go the the setup BIOS screen, then starts up windows. However, every time I reboot now, I can't even get a beep. It just sits idle. The fans do spin, and I hear the hard drive spin up too. The lights on the mobo also work fine.
   
   
3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
   It has worked fine for months. This is the 1st time this has occured.
   
   
4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
   The problem is consistant. After that 1st reboot, I haven't been able to even get a "beep".
   
   
5. I already tried these steps:
   I tried unpluggin unnecassry periphrials from the power supply. So I unplugged the DVD drive and the slave hard drive. This didn't help.

     • System brand & model, if it?s a pre-built system such as a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. If it?s not, fill in as much of the information below as you can.

     • CPU model (and is it overclocked?)
       Intel 2.8Ghz not overclocked (sorry, don't know the exact model)
       
     • Video card(s) brand & model
       Saphire Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis
       
     • RAM modules brand & model
       2 sticks of coursair cmx 512k 3200 LLPT DDR400 SRAM
       
     • Power supply brand & model
       FSP400-60PFN

Could be a number of things. But i'm thinking its either power or the video card. Won't know till you can get spare ones to try out on the system.

So I tired a new power supply but it didn't help at all. On the first try I got to the Windows safe mode, but it froze as soon as my desktop came up. After a break, I got to the BIOS setup window but after I exited I couldn't even get a "beep" after rebooting.

I thought it might be heat related, since after a long break I can at least get to the windows safe mode. However, when I was in the BIOS setup I did see that the CPU temp was 100F. . . not very hot.

Any suggestions?

It could be the motherboard itself. Bottom line is whatever the problem is you need a new PC. Its probably not worth spending the money to fix or replace anything in the system. I suggest saving up about $400 and get yourself a nice new system.

Can you try Last Know Good Config or System Restore?

As I read it you get to Safe Mode, but no further???

Do you have the XP CD to try a repair install?
