i need some help speeding up my system (overclocking) without spending any or much money. my system is about 3-4 years old, but i've been upgrading it a little. i have an ASUS P4S-LA mobo, p4 1.6G/400 fsb, 768M of RAM, and a geforce 6200 on it's way to me (because my geforce2 is messed up). the whole system was built by hp. i can't find anything about my motherboard on asus's site. i just bought half life 2/counterstrike: source and battlefield 2 today too 🙂 please help, and questions welcome.
thanks

I don't know the details about your motherboard, but since it's a retail-brand name one, it's pretty much guaranteed you can't really OC it.
Usually the mobos they use are cheaper neutered ones with no bios options for OCing, & even if they did have them, most likely the mobo has no AGP/PCI locks, which would mean instability.

To put it simply, i wouldn't recommend it.

ok, thanks a lot. this is what i figured but was hoping against it. i'm just trying to stray away from spending more money on a new system.

for some reason, i did notice i could change the multiplier in the bios a few days ago(8x was the lowest and mine is 4x.....?). that's the first time i've seen it and i haven't seen it since. hmmm....weird.

no, i guess i should've game more detail. it was for the cpu/fsb. i think it had options to go up to 64x i think. it's not there anymore anyway. does anyone know what could have caused this to show up in bios and not there anymore?
