Ok here is my ongoing problem:

My computer use to work fine, and then I bought a new computer. I ordered a very cheap case (regret it now) and put my old computer into the cheap case. It still worked fine, but it was a pain to put everything in the case as it was designed poorly. However it still did work. I decided to take my cd-rom drive out of my old computer and put an extra cd-burner that I had in. The case was designed so poorly that I could it was very difficult to pull the cd-rom drive out and impossible to put the burner in. So I ripped the plastic off the case to get my burner in. Well after that nothing would boot. by the way this system is a AMD 900mhz Thunderbird.

So knowing I messed up the case, I ordered a new case. Got the new case, put everything in the new case, and now if the motherboard is screwed in anywhere it will not boot. If its not screwed in, the heatsink fan will come on but wont boot.

What I decided to do next was to put in a different mothboard. I put in a Soyo K7VME, and put in my Thunderbird processor as I did not have another to try. I also put in some SDRAM that works fine on my new computer. Well I can hear the fan come on the power supply, but the fan would not come on the processor.

I thought well maybe its the processor and memory, so I ordered some Kingston 512MB 2700 DDR ram, put it in, still same problem. Ordered an AMD 2000 XP+ which I got today. Installed it, still no heatsink fan will spin. The only thing I can hear is the power supply fan.

So now I have a new computer, with all differnt parts, I don't know what to try next, or which part is bad. I tried unscrewing hte motherboard to see if a short existed and it still wont come up. I am open to any suggestions as to what might be wrong. Thanks for your help!

Have you got another Power supply you can try (sorry if you've already tried this - couldn't work it out from the above)? Also, have you tried removing everything non-essential from the Motherboard and booting?

Well I only have one working power supply, but I do have a power supply tester that I bought to make sure my power supply was working correctly. It is the one shown here http://www.3btech.net/poatxposute.html and when I plug it in all green lights do come on. I'm not sure how well the tester works, do you think it could be the power supply?

I guess if the tester shows it's ok that should be fine - have you tried with only CPU, Video and memory connected? You might also want to try removing the CMOS battery before retrying

Yes I have tried with only CPU, Video, and Memory, it is a brand new motherboard, I have not even been able to get into the CMOS, should I still try to remove the battery?

Alright, so I fiddled with it, finally got the fan to come on, then no IDE anything would powerup as long as the IDE 80 pin cables were plugged in. So I tried to take all the screws out of the motherboard and now everything boots up! So now the next question, how do I screw in my motherboard if whenever I put in any screws it shorts? I am almost there, thanks for your help!
