need help on setting up a web server

I want to set up a web server at home using my old pentium.I have very little knowledge on this and would appreciate any inputs.
I have a att@home connection(dynamic IP) and using SMC router. 😕

Mr Cheetah, your first two steps should be, figuring out what web server program you're going to use and finding out a site that will keep track of your dynamic IP so that users can be directed to you.

I'm not familiar with these sites, but I think they will also need that you have a domain name(which would be another step on its own).

When you have these two steps done then you can think about what else is needed.

It is harder to setup your website on dyn IP. you would need to keep track of the possibilities. One way is to call up your ISP and ask to reserve a certain IP for your machine, or get a dedicated IP.

If you are using an old pentium, the better option would be to run linux apache server. It is harder to configure but it should be good hardware wise. Else, you can run NT4 with IIS with your old pentium. If you'd like the easiest route, go for win9x with personal web server. However there are limits on the number of simultaneous users that can access your server.
