Need Help On RedHat Linux

About two days ago I illegally shut down my computer (I shut down the computer by pressing the power button). I rebooted and it did an error check, about 1/3 the way it gave me an error message and asked for root password for maintenance. I entered the password and a line "file system #1" popped up, i didn' know what to do, so I rebooted (ctrl+alt+del) and the same thing happened. I don't know what to do to fix this, does anyone have any idea how can i fix this? I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

after you put in the password try running fsck

fsck /

should go thru and check the filesystem and fix it. i had a similar problem when i lost power and my machine cut off without shutting it down first.
