Need help on picking out a AMD computer

This is my first time building a computer. I need help on picking out a gaming pc. I do not want top of the line, but a decent pc that can play the lastest games for al least the next three years. Can anyone help me pick out a PC Processor? How about a graphics card. I would like a good one as well. Thanks everyone.

With all the info you gave us that will be easy to do.:roll:

There are 200 threads below this asking the same questions. They have at least read about a few parts. I would suggest starting there.
 
I have $1600 to spend but if I don't have to spend it all, i would prefer not too.

I would like socket 939 if i can afford a processor and mobo for it.

I prefer nVIDIA for graphics and want 512MB-1GB of RAM

I don't know what graphics card model I'm going to choose or how much RAM.
 
any sized monitor is fine with me. As long as it is bigger than 12 inches. I prefer LCD, but if it is too expensive, i'll go CRT.

You can build a nice Athlon64 computer for $1000.00 - $1400.00, depending if you need a monitor.
 
I ordered parts for a similarly priced PC. I went with an Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester, MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard, Leadtek Winfast 6600GT TDH Pci-express video card, 512MBx2 Corsair Value RAM.

is there a difference between 130nm and 90nm?
 
I 'll go with the powersupply you suggested to. Basically, i'll go with ribbon on everything except the graphics card and processor. I wanted a 3500+ and ATi seems to have a pretty good deal on their card

I suggest:

OCZ Modstream 450 (cheaper than the Fortron, just as good).
An Antec Sonata Case for quiet performance. Or anything else that suits your fancy.
Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle Socket 939
DFI Lanparty SLI Deluxe (its only slightly more expensive, even if you dont use SLI, its nice to have options for a few bucks more).
Geforce 6800 Ultra/ 6800 GT/ 6600GT/X800 XL X850XTPE/ Get one of these to hold you over until the supposed R520 🙂
74 Gb WD raptor HD
1 gb Value RAM.

And then you can add somethings like a DVD burner, more HD, or faster RAM to overclock if you want. You can still overclock quite a bit with Value RAM.

Dont bother with raptor hard drives, insanly priced. The x800XL will def be a lot better than the 6600GT, you cannot go wrong with the forton bluestorm either.
 
My final decision is

AMD Athlon 3500+
1Gb of Value RAM
2 x 250Gb HDDs

and a combination of the stuff you all recommended.

do you actually suggest newegg or who do you use? i thought newegg was good until recently the hotdeal forum started ripping it apart. i think i am going to build a similiar pc in a month or 2...
