Need help on new monitor 24"+ purchase!

Hi All,

First my apologies if this is in the wrong section - I saw the LCD Screen thread so assuming this is the right place to post this - if not please let me know where this should go

Looking at changing my monitor to a newer 24"+ screen

This monitor will be a general use monitor - internet, office work, emails, some gaming - I know IPS models are better suited for color reproduction etc. for digital imaging but this will almost never be done - but unless someone can give me a great reason not too - I think a TN panel will do

Have the following models in mind

Asus VE276Q
Asus VE278Q
Asus VK246H
Asus VW266H

LG W2442PA-BF
LG E2340T-PN (prefer 24" + but interested in LED comments as well)

Philips 240B1CB

Samsung BX2440X
Samsung P2570
Samsung P2770H

I know Asus on motherboards but how are they on monitors?

Trying not too break the bank on this - looking at spending about $350 Canadian on the monitor

Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations etc would be greatly appreciated

Currently/Temporarely working on a Samsung Syncmaster 750s and would like to move up 🙂

Pick any of the ones you listed, just check warranty period (longer the better).

with 24" TN panel, it really doesn't matter which brand you pick. Go for it.
 
The last 24" monitor I bought was the SyncMaster T240HD, it was going for 300 bucks.

It's a TN panel but has the added bonus of an internal digital tv tuner, remote and everything, it's pretty nice to have access to cable tv on your desktop.

I think it has been phased on in favor of the newer Samsung P2570HD, though that's around 350 bucks now it's probably a better screen.

I know you said 24" and over, but you might want to check out the Samsung PX2370. It's a 23" TN based LED monitor with 2ms response, great brightness/colors and almost zero input lag. I don't think you will find many TN panel LCDs with better color reproduction than this one. It's slightly pricey at $300, but I think you get what you pay for.

I'd check dell deals before you jump on anything. Every once in a while they drop the prices on their ips and va monitors and you might be able to catch one.
 
The Asus Monitor in my sig is only a 23" LED and my experience with LCD Monitors is very limited but I'm very pleased with it.

Not much help I know, actually viewing the various monitors at a store(hopefully they will have done some decent setup) would be a good way to compare the specific Models you are interested in.
 
I wouldn't use a TN panel if someone gave it to me. I am way too anal about those viewing angles. This of course is just a personal preference.

Thank you everybody for the feedback!

Went to a few stores - Best Buy, Future Shop, Staples, Tiger Direct, etc and they all kind of look the same to me but I narrowed it down to either the LG, Samsung or Asus

I agree that the IPS panels are better for color reproduction, viewing angles etc but this will be a general use monitor and will be looking at it straight on for most of the time - also going with the bigger size as they arent that expensive like they used to be - though I keep checking Dell's site daily for any specials they might have on there ultrasharp's 🙂

Also all of them come with a three year warranty so pretty much covered there

I did check out the LED monitors as well but couldnt really see a difference between them and the regular LCD

Has anyone heard any horror stories on the models above? Hard to find good reviews on any of them 🙁
 
the I-Inc ih-282HPB is only $250 but it's 28" and more importantly 1920x1200 instead of 1080

to me, for office work, resolution is THE most important thing to look at

IPS panels are the pricier of them all. The ZR24W can be had under $400. There was a time you couldn't even get close to that price. Heck my Benq FP241W was a PVA and almost $800 back in the days.

Same here. TN's are just awful, even if you aren't doing image/photo editing. My first LCD was a PVA panel, so I got spoiled.
 
Another vote for the Asus VW266H. I recently picked one up to temporarily replace my GDM-FW900 24" CRT while I give it a tuneup. For the price, I'm pleased with it. 25.5" screen, 1920x1200 resolution, more inputs than you can shake a stick at, no stuck pixels (yay!) and between the instant rebate, coupon code, mail-in rebate and free shipping, it came to only $225 at Newegg. Oh, and it has a 3 year warranty to boot.

It may not have an IPS panel, but it doesn't have an IPS panel's pricetag, either.
 
What about the Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED? It's available from amazon for $200 with free shipping, its HD, but it's 5 ms response time. Seriously thought, it's an LED monitor with awesome reviews, and it's really inexpensive (It's normally priced at $370).
 
For those in this discussion, would you say that a TN flatty would be ok for general everyday use? For example, I would use one for general stuff like web surfing, watching youtube videos and casual gaming.

^^^Thanks. I was browsing some TNs at newegg the other day and was actually suprised that they had a few 23 and 24 inch models for around (or a little more) then the $200 threshhold. I didnt realize that they had become so relatively cheap.

TN panels are all about cheap, that's why they dominate the market.
 
Love my 23" NEC IPS monitor ($300). Both of them. Wouldn't trade them for 3 TN panels. Still, can't beat TN for price.
