I need a new build and have come up with this:
CPU: Intel C2D 6300
M/B: ASUS P5B-E plus
RAM: Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4
HDD: Seagate ST3400620AS (400GB,16MB) x 2
HDD: Seagate ST3160811AS (160GB,8MB)x1
GPU: 7600GS or X1650Pro PCI Express
PSU: Cant decide
ODD1: NEC 3500 (from old system)
ODD2: Plextor PX-708 (from old system)
ODD3: Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive (from old System)
PCI Cards: 1 ATA PCI card and 1 SCSI Card for External MO Drive
I may OC a little but only as much as the stock HSF would allow.
Now my questions:
Should I go 7600GS or X1650Pro and what kind of PSU should I get?
I may add a few HDDs or a new Burner or so in the future so a PSU with a decent overhead for future upgrades would be good. I am thinking about a 550W class PSU but do not know if it would be enough.
I would also be happy about any recomendations/critics or comments about the parts I chose. But please note that I live in Japan and the parts I get here may not be the same as you get in Europe or USA.
Thank you in advance for taking your time and for any advice given.
Best Regards,
Koba

as for CPU go with the 6400 it over clocks real nice, as for the ram if the is XMS ram do not waste your money get something like Patriot Extreme or Buffalo Firestiks or Super Talent, Seagate makes some of the best HDDs so you are set there, I would go with the 7600GS but that really depends on your preference and how it preforms with the stuff you will use it with, as for a PSU I would suggest the enermax liberty 500w, as for a motherboard I would suggest the GA-965P-DS3 it is a really good board and well liked. I would cut down to two optic drives,

A good 500 watt PSU is over 2x what would be enough.

My suggestion would be for a 330 or 380 Seasonic S12.

hey you can never have enough power hahaha, I mean look at people who buy kilowatt psus when even a 750w quad will run 2x8800gtx and a quad core

Thanks for the replies.
I will take the opticals from my old system and may use one of them in a USB enclosure (the Toshiba).
About the Memory. I can get the XMS at a good price from a friend who bought these instead of normal DDR for his Socket 939. They are still in original package and are not opened and because it is my friends fault that he bought those the shop does not take them back lol. So if there is no problem with those I would like to go with them.
As for the M/B I will take a look at the price and availability of the Gigabyte.
Well you never now with the power. I think I will go with 500+W because you never now when you have to add a new HDD or so...

Well I am not into gaming that much. Maybe some very slight gaming.....but if you have some good recomendations I am willing to check it out.

About the Gigabyte M/B I heard that it has trouble with some specific Memory. Is this problem still around or have they fixed it? The price for the board seems to be good and would leave me with some extra money for a better video card.

I would look into a 7900 GS.

I would suggest sapphire X1950pro. It is a tad bit under 200 bucks and well worth the price. As far as the D695P-DS3 goes; I think the memory problems were fixed with the F6 bios and newegg ships it with that version of BIOS. It is better to double check in any case with someone with the combination you are looking for! (better safe than sorry).

OK as it looks like the problems on the Gigabyte are fixed with a new bios update. Now the only problem left is how to chek the revision before buying this board. From the features it has it seems to be a good board and I am leaning toward it instead of the Asus. But still have to check on that Memory issue....
About the Radeon X1950pro: where I live (Japan) the 1950pro goes for US$210+ (the Sapphire for US$225+)but I will check it if the Gigabyte turns out to be OK (if not then this GPU is a little over my budget).
