Hi guyz,

I was able to file federal income tax online for free a year ago but they charged me 30 some dollars for filing state/local income tax. I live in Indiana. Is there an online place where I can file state income tax for free? Anyone know? I can't afford $30+ as I'm in very bad financial situation. Please help?

Here's the tax form broceritops: http://forms.in.gov/Download.aspx?id=13424

Fill it in (with any required subsequent forms) toss it in an envelope and mail it.

If you filled in your federal return using software such as TurboTax, a lot of times they let you complete a state income tax return BUT they try to charge you for e-filing the state return... So just complete the return in the tax software but instead of efiling print it out and mail it in. I had to do that a couple years back.

Fake edit: Depending on your income level, your state has a free e-file service available online: http://www.in.gov/dor/4578.htm

Exactly. All software that I've used so far let you preview your state form but not file it. Just copy the previewed state form onto paper, go to a mailbox, and you are done.

If you can't preview it, the state forms are usually extremely easy to do yourself. I just downloaded that Indiana state form and it was mostly "copy item from federal form line ____". If you can't copy, how did you get onto an online forum to ask this question?

While preparing your information to file your taxes, consider using Indiana freefile (INfreefile) to file your federal and state income taxes online for free.

Eligible taxpayers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $64,000 or less qualify to file for free using INfreefile. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to file for free using the same vendor software taxpayers often pay to use.

Public Service Announcement for ATOT: Please stop being scared to look at the actual tax forms. They aren't that scary - especially for the majority of people that file (excludes ATOT hotshots making $500k with 20 rental properties).
