I have a budget of around £100-£150 to spend to upgrade my current 9500gt. Im wondering what is the best card to get for this price for gaming?
if you are not going to have a sig then ALWAYS list your pc specs when asking for hardware advice. cpu, ram, psu and resolution you play at are the minimum things people need to know before giving proper upgrade advice.Just had a quick search and ive got a choice between the following cards,
nvidia gts250
nvidia gtx260
ati 5770
ati 5830

I wouldnt consider any of those cards if i where u. Lately the 4800 series of ati had some crazy deals. Check out pixmania u can find a 4890 1gb for a nice price.
The gts250 and gts 260 arent even worth considering as both get beaten by the 4850+ series hands down and the 4850 + are alot cheaper then both those cards.
The 5770 and 5830 get beaten by the 4890 hands down. And the 4890 1gb is also alot cheaper then both those cards.
But the 5770 and 5830 are nice cards but the 5830 is an overpriced card for the performance it gives.
I considered both those cards the 5770 and 5830 but went with a 4890 1gb vapor x as it was 100 cheaper then a 5830 and 40 cheaper then a 5770 and it beats both cards in performance. It just lacks dx11 but who uses that.
But it depends on what u urself want.
I just think that a 4890 1gb is the best bang for buck at 100-150 pounds. As its one hell of a card.
you still never even listed your specs like I asked.Hey mate, thanks for your input, i did a bit of research today and it seems that your right about the 4980 being the best card and i think i will go with this. I didnt even look into the 4900 series before as i thought that the 5000 series would naturally be better cards but it seems that i can get a lot more for my money by getting this card.

I assume you have at least 2gb of ram. what power supply do you have? you might have trouble powering a 4890. tv is probably 1366x768 which is a pretty low res so even a 9600gt or so wouldnt too bad if you dont have a strong psu that can handle a faster card.Ah sorry, heres the specs of my computer:
2.60 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X4 810
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
ASRock N68-S
is there anything you need? I dont really know what resolution i play at, becuase i sometimes play on my computer screen and sometimes on my telly, but its usually 1024/768 or 1600/900 on my tv i think? But i will be playing on a 19in lcd tv soon, so i am unsure what resolution ill be using on that
