Need help on buying CDRW ?

Hello all.. I was wondering about this Yamaha Lightspeed CDRW. We have it at our local PX (military) and I have never seen nor heard of it before. I always here about Plextor and HP and Zip but never Yamaha. I was wondering how does Yamaha compare to those?

I keep reading about Plextor. I'm looking to buy also. Can anyone recommend a decent labeling setup?

All you need for labeling is the labels. The stompers aren't as good as aligning by hand (if you can). The software is free (it sells labels). I did get a kit with a free stomper free after rebate. I don't use the stomper.

Plextor is the best, but they are known not to include the best software. If you can get the software otherwise, that would be good. I think Plextor uses metal gears also for durability.

Cendyne I think is made by Ricoh which is very good as well. I am seeing their drives very cheap and includes Nero 5! I'm talking >$130 for an 8x8x32 CDRW with Nero.

look in the hot deals section of the forum. iomega rebadged 12x8x32 (burnproof)plextors for $99 after rebates. this is one hot deal. much better than my iomega 8x4x32 for $109 couple mos ago.

Yea I just picked this 12x10x32 Iomego up yesterday from comp usa for a grand total of $99 after rebate this is the best deal on any CDRW you will find right now.

plextor seems liek a good choice. i have their 12x one. the thing is their tech support is rude. all they do is accuse me of doing things wrong.

Yamaha are good burners, I think they were the first to come out with a 16x burner. Anyway, the lightspeed has 8mb of ram, which is extremely great when it comes to burning... but it's almost, but not burnproof, the ability that other burners based on Sanyo technology have. Burnproof allows the burner to turn on and off the laser when the buffer runs out... thereby eliminating coasters.

TDK and Sanyo announced their 16x already with burnproof. Haven't seen any place selling them yet.

Id go with a Plextor 12/10/32 A.

Although, I remember reading about a 16x Plextor somewhere, it wont be out for a while.
