actually, with the iPOD mini being released, you might be able to find people unloading their 1G/2G ipods for something smaller like the Mini

Amazingly, my N505 gets about 35-45 hours playback, from 1 AA battery, considering that there are moving parts inside. Also, I've been using it at the gym while working out (not too much cardio though) for about 6 months, and it still works like the day I bought it.

dont you have to convert mp3 into artec files? how long does it take to transfer a song?

for example, my mp3 player takes about 4 seconds to transfer a 10mb mp3 file.

and how many songs can a disk hold?

i am surprised it can play 35~45 hours! mine does about 13 hours with AAA. but there is a big difference between AAA and AA :)

It does take quite a bit to transfer songs, because it has to convert the mp3's into ATRAC first before it transfers. I don't really have speed stats but a rough guess would be about 15-20 seconds to convert+transfer an average 5 minutes song to the minidisc.

Song quality choices are LP2, LP4, and Stereo, with LP4 being the lowest one, allowing you to cram between 5-6 hours of music on each disc. Blanks come in 74-minute and 80-minute flavors, but I'm not quite sure of the storage size (rough guess: ~400 MB)

EDIT: 35-45 hours is decent, considering mine is spec'd at 56 hours playback time, or 16 hours recording time :p

I have an iRiver 380T which I use at the gym and when I go running and it works and sounds great. The software that comes with it is easy to use too!

get the MPIO FL100, there are 4 versions of it, 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, and 512mb plus it has a SD memory slot.
it's really a great player, i bought it for my gf and she loves it.
if you want style then you can get the fy200, but it doesn't have the SD memory slot.
