As the title says.I was wondering can some members here out me & tell me what should i get & also what sites to get the stuff from for the cheapest price's.I need a really fast pc with alot of storage as i'm doing alot of vcd/svcd to dvd converting.I was told that a P4 2.4c that i can oc it to like 3ghz & at least a gig of pc3200 ddr was good enough.

All the help counts & also thanks in advance.

P.S. Remember people i only got $1000 at the moment to build something so no crazy high price stuff. Also i'm not gonna be watching dvd's or playing games on this pc so i don't need a great video card.I was also wondering if i can put like 2 pioneer a05's in it & burn at the same time.I already got the software that will let me.

I dont see any reason why you couldnt have two DVD burners...but why? Are you running an underground black market DVD shop?😛

Anyways, as for looking for parts under $1000, do you want two DVD burners included? (might be a little hard).

Also, is it the pioneer that you want, or was that just an example? If not, do you know what format you want (dvd-r, dvd+r, or both)?

No i run a home video company where i convert peoples weddings/vactions etc onto dvdrs. Also yeah don't include the burners in the price as i know that's about $360 alone & yeah pioneer burners but i got a place for those.

what kind of video card were u thinking on getting? are u running dual monitors? newegg.com has the cheapest matrox g450 agp for dual monitors $84 free shipping. or G550 $95 has DVI. Freakin' Dell 's been having crazy sales lately on monitors

Here's something you can work with.

You might want to add another hard drive or buy a 200GB one, I just selected the 120 GB one because its big and the best value.

Theres plenty of money left for a monitor and cables that you would need since the drives are all OEM. I didnt select any because I didn't know whether or not you had cables or a monitor from previous systems to use. And also you can add whatever cheap video card you want.

shootsfor3 - I just need a simple video card.

murr - that isn't bad at all.Theres alot of extra $$$ left for a moniter & maybe even A05.But what i was wondering is hows the quality of the ram & board. Also do i need any type of special heatsink if i wanted to oc it to 3ghz as many people has been telling me i can do with that 2.4C ?.

Geil isn't a well known company, but I've heard pretty good things. Basically its just OK, but pretty good for the price. If you want, you could spend an extra $40 per stick of ram and go with Kingston HyperX or Corsair XMS. Just depends on what you wanna spend.

The board is supposed to be very good. One of the best for overclocking, and cheap as hell. Anandtech said its the best value.

From what I heard, the 2.4C can be overclocked to 3.0 Ghz on stock cooling.

I don't really know alot about pc's so can you tell me what's stock cooling ?.Also what is a good cheap beige or white color case ?

Stock cooling is just the cooling it comes with.

Do you want beige or white instead of black? Antec makes good cases and power supplies, both for $90 or whatever it was is a good deal. I can't find other colors with a better price tag. But if you really want, you could just buy whatever case you like, just make sure you buy a quality power supply, such as Antec. Tomshardware.com has some good case reviews and Anandtech has some PSU reviews on the front page. I would go with 400 watts. But just to warn you, you're gonna end up spending $80 or so on a good PSU alone.

Oh and dont forget to buy a different color DVD drive😉

So your saying to go with Corsair XMS memory insted ?.I see it's alot more then the geil so the big question is will it work better & faster. Also how muh better & faster is pc2700 to pc3200.I don't wanna dish out some $$$ & just upgrade my speeds alittle.

P.S. I'm running a AMD xp1700 with 512 crucial pc2100 ddr ram a ecs mobo & a wd1200JB & it's taking me about 6 hours to convert.

Theres a good case in silver here. Comes with a 450 Watt PSU. Sorry but I cant find any good white or beige cases with PSUs.

Ok i'll look into that case. The only reason why i said a brige or white instead of that black one was because of the black a05's are alot more then the regular ones but oh well. Also sorry for all the questions lol & thanks for the help but can i run 2 hd's with this mobo ?.Like set up like this =

Prim master = Hard drive
Prim Slave = dvd-rw
Sec Master = Hard drive
Sec Slave = dvd-ron

Link doesn't work.Silver would be nice also if its like that antec one that covers the drives.

Damn I cant get the link to work. Anyway just go to newegg.com, cases, and search for chieftech with 450 watt power supply. You should see a few of them with different colors, one is silver.

WHy dontcha just goto dell and buy one. Check out the hot deals section. You really cannot beat the price especially if you need to purchase software with your system. You can normally buy a good system for around 600-700 bucks and have a decent warranty.

Okay here you go:

$1000 is equal to around £598 here in the UK... so...

Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0Ghz [266FSB]
512MB Crucial 184Pin DIMM PC2700 DDR RAM
MSI Athlon/Duron/AthlonXP VIA KT333 [200/266/333FSB] Motherboard
Cooler-Master XP 2500+ CPU Fan
Midi Tower with 300W PSU
Sony 52X CD ROM
Sony 1.44MB Internal 3.5"
Cooler-Master Smart Quiet 8cm Case Fan
Western Digital Caviar 40.0GB UDMA100 [8MB cache special edition]
Crucial Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card

£499.73 (£524.25 with 768MB Ram)

That above excludes a monitor, keyboard and mouse though, which can be got with the extra few quid left over.
All that suff above is from dabs.com in the UK, but I'm sure there will be an American Store somewhere where you can pick that stuff up from.

Alkali - That system doesn't seem as good as others been telling me to get. Also i read that the p4 2.6c is a better buy then the p2 2.4c & to get xms memory.

Well I know that mate, but that list is well within your price range. You can always go for a better CPU.

p4 2.4c oc @ over 3ghz $180
Abit ic7 motherboard the best board for oc the 2.4 $140
120gb 8mb western digital hard drive $100
ati radeon 9500 128mb can be oc to 9700 - refurbished $120
good inexpensive case w/ power and fans $80
768/ 3-256 CORSAIR MEMORY XMS 3200 $180
Mistubishi Diamond Pro® 2070SB-BK $600

total = 1390

Building a budget PC is something a little difficult unless you really do your shopping around.

If you need a new computer on a $1000 budget, get a Dell :disgust:.
Then add in your stuff in there. Check out the Hot Deals forums over at FW for the best deal on a Dell. As much as I hate those gross machine, at the prices that people are getting them for, I am really tempted to buy one.
