don't touch the 3350p if you're doing 3dsmax rendering and the 8320 is so close in price just look here :

If you're gaming go Intel all the way.

990FX is certified for SLI. 970 is not.

    MSI H77 G43 - $104

for this kind of money you can buy a z77 motherboard I think,

anyway, the 3350p is a lot more efficient and better for gaming

I'd still stick with the i5, better overall performance, especially for gaming

For the same price i would go for the FX8320, OC to 4 or 4.2GHz and you will be fine.

Once pushed to 4.2Ghz(just a multiplier change, nothing else) the 8320 would be overall better chip than 4C/4T 3.1Ghz i5. But it's up to OP to decide, there are pros and cons for each setup.

it really depends on the usage,
the even lower clocked 3330 can keep up (and beat) with the 8350 (4-4.2GHz) for gaming, with the lower power usage and requirements

now for other applications (like rendering, as the test shows) the FX would make more sense,

Yeah I agree. Which ever is cheaper should be his pick.

An i5 3350P will consume about 1 less kwh for every 12 hours you spend gaming. So if you game 20-25 hours a week you're looking at about $50 saved over the course of 3 years. So you'd have to be able to build the AMD system for $50 cheaper in order to justify the added power.
