Need help on backing up Xbox and PS2 games. PLEASE.

Hello,
I have a little cousin who has been spoiled with owning two game consoles. He got both Playstation 2 and Xbox. The problem is that, he's only 10 and his friends come over to play the games with him and they scratch up the DVDs and they become unreadable after a little while. His dad is asking me on how to back it up if possible so that it would save him the $$$ to keep on buying new games for his son.
I am not familar with the techniques b/c I don't have console game system.
I appreciate with any help. Please give clear step by step if possible.

I think the easy part is backing up the disc. Those systems need mod chips installed to play the backups.. installation is not for the faint of heart .

Yeah, you'll either have to solder on the modchip on the xbox(not sure about PS2) or you could find a solderless chip but I don't believe they're as reliable as the ones you solder on. You need to be pretty good at soldering to accomplish this too. Someone else could propably help you more as I'm waiting until I either have enough money to burn to try it or get ahold of an xbox fairly cheap.
 
I have a similar problem... except I'm the one that ends up scratching the disks 😱

I didn't want to rip open my PS2, so I went with a slide card and Swap Magic disks from www.modchip.ca . It arrived in good time, and in great shape. You really don't need to buy the slide card, as you can very easily make a working one from a simple card, like one of those credit cards that come in the mail with offers for the company. I'll edit this post, if you're interested, and show a scan of the one I made out of a Target phone card. Yeah, it's ghetto, but it works.

You need to do a bit of a case mod on the front of the PS2, but the instructions explain that and it doesn't void the warranty.

Only thing is, kids may end up screwing up the PS2 since the card is a bit hard to use at first. They would get the hang of it though... I think it's worth checking out.
