I been trying to get a friends computer to run with XP
The computer locks up shortly after everything loads in windows
Before reinstalling windows the computer was only locking up while playing games the it would go high pitched sounds followed by locking up
Any help is greatly appreciated

ok here at the P.O.S. specs
Iwill KK266-R KT133A chipset
900 Duron yes I know, but when I built this a few yrs ago i was tryin to save money
576 memory
40 Gig HD
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
Geforce3Ti200
Also has network card and modem
Windows XP Professional

Ok where do I start
I have updated all drivers
Via
Nvidia
Creative
Microsoft updates
I have tried different video drivers ranging from 30.82 to 41.09
via drivers from early to 4.46
I have done fresh installs
I have changed stuff around on the pci slots
I have changed everything i can think of on the bios
One thing I have found is that on any documentation on this motherboard it doesnt mention anything with XP
My thoughts are to flash the bios or again just take it out in the street and let a truck run it over:)

576 memory
start your isolation troubleshooting there..test each piece individually ..preferably on a known good working rig..
take it out in the street and let a truck run it over:)

What's your power supply? How 'bout temperatures? Are you overclocking?

What was the high-pitched sound? Was it coming from the speakers/video/what???

Have you tried a different video-card?

Oh, and before you go find that truck - let me know... I'd take that mobo. I love mine ... even though it's not running XP yet...

This is a friends computer which I built a couple of years ago
originally with a Hercules - 3DProphet 4500 and with the onboard sound.

Ran under ME with no problems

Upgraded to the XP, Audigy gamer, and Geforce 3ti200 and have had nothing but headaches since

Like I said before I really cant find anything that has any XP documentation the current bios is the 3/7/2001 version

the system was having problems playing games, the sound would loop and the video would lock up
after re-installing and trying different bios settings, drivers, etc It will lock up as within minutes of the system loading.
Also we added a pci - ide adapter so he could run the burner, dvd and zip drives
Temps are low- not overclocked
To all the kk266r fans, I knew what I was buying when I built this and I agree its good, but this has got all 3 of my brain cells confused

you could check the onboard jumper for the CMedia to either enable(and use that) or disable and try the Audigy again..ymmv..would help you to isolate and test which trouble it is

After removing the sound card I enabled the jumper for the onboard.
If the system remains stable, he will get his computer back and I will hand him his audigy seperately ;)
thanks again
