Need help on setting up a new Game Server rig, that'll withstand 24/7. Thinking of Epox 8KHA+ or Asus A7V266E, with XP 1600. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. :)

either one of those motherboards will probably serve you quite well. id say whichever one you can get cheaper would be my choice.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of advice for the hardware, but if you want to run 24/7, you definitly need a UPS. Even a cheap one will be fine since you're trying to block brownouts more than blackouts.

Any recommendations on type of case (I was looking at one of Antec's server cases), and cooling fans/thermals? Also SCSI vs EIDE (In terms of threshold). Also, I was experiencing some weird things happening to my existing system where the Application window closes by itself. And it's not running out of memory...any takes on that? Million Thanks! :)

for the case, i have an antec 1030b, and absolutely love it. as for the harddrive, i would go ide. once the game is loaded and running, all you'll need is a fast processor, and LOTS of ram.

now for windows.......good luck! (seriously, which version of windows are you running?)

Thanks, flippyboy. As for Windows...uhmm... ...i'm using win2k. Not too familiar with Linux, so i'm sticking with win2k pro + IIS to deliver stats.

if you're going to be using win2k + iis, then make sure you keep it well patched (dl the updates at least once a week). iis is a favorite of hackers and virus authors.
