Need help OCing i7 940 + Foxconn Bloodrage

I was looking at the bios options and there is so many new things that I don't understand. It is way more complex then the C2D overclocking that i'm accustomed to.

Before anyone mentions it... Yes, I have read 2 FAQ's on overclocking the i7's and to be honest, it confused me even more but I have tried. I have listed the bios options I set below.

I just need someone who is familiar with the Bloodrage bios options to help me out and get this processor overclocked some.

I have been tweaking settings for the last 2 hours with no luck. I have dropped QPI/Mem/Uncore multipliers down to the lowest possible to see if it would help but I cannot get it to even post without the Overclocking Recovery kicking in.

I am not 100% sure but I think it may be my Corsairs, i'm starting to think that I got a faulty set. When I use the Extreme Memory Profile option in the bios and it sets the speed to 1600 MHz it locks up when Windows is almost fully booted with the black screen and mouse cursor. I have tried 9-9-9-24-2 and 8-8-8-24-2. The only way it will fully boot into Vista 64 is if I turn off the Extreme Memory Profile option and let the bios run it at 1067 MHz.

I have also tried moving the RAM into different sockets. I read in some thread that someone had luck fixing their problems this way but it has done nothing for me.

When I had upgraded I also did not do a full clean installation. A few threads I read on the subject, people have said that going from x48 to x58 should not cause problems. But to minimize it I also the previous chipset drivers prior to installing the new motherboard and the drivers.

Once again, any help or insight would GREATLY be appreciated as I am at a loss on what to do right now.

This is what I have tried with no luck at all.

Help this i7 overclocking nub please!!

Thanks

And no I have not. When everything is on auto-detect in the bios, they computer starts up without a hitch, but if I have any setting for the cpu or memory on manual it will either crash during boot or not even get passed post.

ok. try to bump up your CPU VTT +200, set it to 1.3v

You should always try to run mem86+, even you can boot in window, there still could be problem with the ram.

Well, I ran memtest 86 with the SPD at the spec settings of 8-8-8-24-2 @ 1.65v 1600 MHz. Each chip by itself successfully made 2 passes.

When I put 2 chips it, it will reboot itself at Pass 0% / Test 47%
With 3 chips in, it will lock up during the memtest at Pass 0% / Test 7%

All 3 of the chips will do 2 passes with 0 errors by themselves in each slot but not together in any configuration.

Does anyone have any insight into the problem?

Update:

I could not overclock the processor from the bios but using the Foxconn Aegis panel I am currently running at 3693.74 @ 161 bclock (160.60 x23.0) MHz with Vcore @ 1.168v (+90mv), CPU_VTT @ 1.312v (+160mv) and DRAM @ 1.648v (1.65v).

The Aegis tool unfortunately has no option to bump up the Memory multiplier so it is running at 1285 MHz at the moment. I'm pretty sure that the bios CPU Turbo mode is on still as I didn't even think of trying to use the OC software the motherboard came with.

you shouldnt do anything within the aegis panel; its very buggy. do everything within the bios. you should easily be able to get to 179 at stock voltage.

PPM - Enabled
EIST - Disabled SET TO ENABLE
CPU Turbo - Disabled SET TO ON ; also set turbo to ALWAYS ON
CxE - Auto DISABLE
Virtualization - Enabled DISABLE
Execute Data Bit - Enabled DISABLE
Hyperthreading - Disabled ENABLE

CPU VCore - 1.28250v DEFAULT for now
CPU VTT - Auto DEFAULT FOR NOW
CPU VDroop Compensation - Disabled ENABLE
DRAM Voltage - 1.65v
X58 IOH Core - 1.10v

Memory 9-9-9-24-2 BY SPD
CPU Bclock - 164 MHz
QPI Link Fast Mode - Enabled
QPI Multiplier - Auto X18
CPU Core Multiplier - 22x X19
CPU Uncore Multiplier - Auto X16
Memory Bus Multiplier - 8x (@ 1315 MHz) 6 or 8X

try these settings and should get you to at least 179 for bclock. also note that with turbo on and HT will enable 8threads for cpu and turbo will end up being 21X

Also when the sites back up go to XS as they have a small Foxconn suppot thread along with a rep. Look for Saaya and/or BenchZowner. There are others that can share bios settings with you that own the Bloodrage

NP. looks like XS is still down; hope they get back up soon. They are my home away from home, lol. Let us know how you are progressing.
