Need help now!! Raid.

Hey. Thanks for reading...

I just got everything put into my computer and I'm using an IWill XP333-R.

I can't seem to get the Windows XP setup to recognize the drives.. heres what I have setup so far:

Raid 0 Array (64KB Size)
Set HD1 to Boot in Raid Setup

I haven't changed any of the Bios settings and noticed that one of the boot settings in the bios said Raid100, do I need to set this?

So I have the disk array setup and when I run the Windows setup it aint doing anything.. it loads the files and I told it where my raid setup disk was and it just sits at "Setup is Starting Windows"

I'm stumped. Any Raid wizards out there?

Also, in the raid setup there were options for greater than 64kb file size... can I choose one of those or are those for something different.

Thank you for any help as I sit here looking at my computer.

I just got Windows to copy all the files and format the two hard drives (I guess) and when it restarted to finish the installation it says this now:

Set bios to boot from:

Floppy
cdrom
raid 100

When the XP installation screen starts you will see it tell you to hit F6 at the bottom of the screen. Do so then when it prompts you to define mass storage, hit S, then insert the raid driver floppy diskette.

Hmm... I've tried it again messing with different settings... and the option came up for a 78MB partition. That is a good thing.

I think I may have something here.

Also, did I have to choose the 64kb size on the raid array? How come there are different sizes above that?

I'll let ya know how it goes.

You should just use the auto configure option. 64K is the stripe size, and considered optimal for most users. You get diminishing returns using a smaller number, and only use a larger number if you constantly work with extremely large files, such as video.

I do mess with videos and movies and such... but I'm not going back to change the setting now that I have Windows actually recognizing the drives. I'll see how performance goes. Thanks!

Verify jumper on mobo is set to raid if there is one. Jumper each hard drive as master and put it on its own ide cable. Then go into the raid bios and autoconfig it, save changes, reboot, and boot the the XP cd. When the XP installation screen starts you will see it tell you to hit F6 at the bottom of the screen. When it prompts you to define mass storage, hit S, then insert the raid driver floppy diskette. Select the proper driver, enter, enter again to continue. You can then partition and format the array. Windows will then copy files.
