Need help, no video

Tring to help a friend with this homebuilt computer he picked up. When he gave it to me it booted to BIOS but couldn't load OS. I was planning on doing a re-install but I couldn't get into recovery mode without boot disks. So I tried a different hard drive that I know is good (both XP PRo by the way), but still no go. Tried switching cables also, no difference.

That didnt' work either so I went back to square one but now I can't get any output from the video card (Geforce4 Ti4200). I was using a KVM switch, but tried connecting it directly, no go. Tried connecting it to the onboard video just in case the bios had reset to that, no go.

Here's where it gets stranger: I turn the CPU on and the keyboard lights flash for a second but don't stay on. Fans come on, CD powers on, but no video out, and it doesn't sound like any activity is going on, even with XP CD in.

Any clues, why no video now? Power supply problem? I dont' see how I could have "screwed" up anything by trying a different hard drive, or switching cables. The fact that the keyboard lights only stay on for a second seems strage to me, or maybe that is normal when CPU hasn't booted up yet.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You might have bump into the video and got knocked out loose. Make sure it's there tight and the 4 pin power connector is also inserted. Let us know as soon as you see video and then we will help you with the hdd problem.

I thought of that, card seemed a little loose, so I took it out, and re-seated it (is that word?). No go. Tried another video card I have, no go.

Remove the card and try the internal (must not be in slot for internal to work on many setups). If this is an ASUS motherboard, plug a pair of headphones into the green audio port on the back (is anyone talking during post?)

Okay, after a few days still at a loss here. Can't see anything with internal video out. Tried popping ina nother AGP video card, nothing. Tried popping in a CI card I had laying around, nothing.

Even though the power supply comes on, could that be an issue here, I'm at a standstill.
