Just Bear. I don't think the name matters so much. My cats have a few names each, and they know which I'm referring to even though I use different names each time.

Yeah that is true...this whole 'tote' thing developed from names of our family dogs LOL!

The original...

Apollo, aka PigTote, the black lab...if you saw him you would understand.
RIP buddy

With Human contact and verbal repetition, almost any name will do. But some thing you can repeat easily multiple times helps. My first dog was named Rudy and Come here Rudy Rudy Rudy just rolls off the tongue easily.

But my Chocolate Lab really adapted to the name Slurp, which fit her not exactly lady like drinking and eating habits perfectly. And as a unusual name not often part of normal vocabulary, all I had to do is whisper the word Slurp and I would get a wag of the tail. Damn I miss that dog, but total hip deterioration got her at age 14.

But warning, don't name your dog spot and watch the play Macbeth in the dog's presence. True story, when Lady Macbeth exclaims "Out Damn Spot", the dog is likely to freak.

One of my present dogs is named Brat, and saying Brrrat gets her attention.

I'd love to post a pic of the dog I'm adopting...but not sure how to put a pic in a post.

*Newbie needing help if anyone is interested*

I am warming to the name Honey, even though some have shot it down...I am thinking it will fit.

But agreeing with JJ, I am meeting her this weekend and my mind could change about the name. Kind of doubt it though because I grew up with retrievers and they all seem to have an excellent sense of humor :D

I'd err on the side of caution with a name like Honey and here's why.

If you aren't in a serious relationship right now, you might one day be. I call my hubby "honey" all the time and vice versa. We actually had a choice between two rescues from the same litter and one was named Honey, the other Marshmallow. We both discussed the potential problems with using a name like Honey. We probably would have renamed that puppy if we had chosen her. However, hubby chose Marsh, he thought she was cuter. We renamed her Mystie and it took about a week with patience and rewards for her to come to that name. She's a black lab / border collie mix.

Please post pics of your new companion sometime, would love to see :)

To keep a dog unique with a name, many people are taking their last name and rearranging the letters to create a new name. For example, if your last name is Cook, they change the letters to be Coko. If you have a last name that this doesn't work with, use your first name.

OK...evets, veets, teevs, sveet, hmmm I guess veets is kind of original LOL

Guess I will try my full name....penshet, nesteph...doesn't seem to work as well.

dresonan, I rather fancy that actually, but think I would get lots of strange looks.

Use an image hosting site. I prefer http://imgur.com/ Upload your picture, and one of the quick links will have tags. That's the one you want for inline images, and using [img] tags from other file hosts(with the url) will yield the same results. If the picture is big, you may want to resize it before upload. I prefer 1024*768 so the picture isn't huge. I'll leave it big for some things if size is needed. [/quote]

Thanks I will try this over the weekend :)
