Need help - new name for dog

Have a friend adopting a dog. His original name is baby bear. Name is kinda lame so looking for a new one.

Need name that sounds similar with same number of syllables. One or two words should work.

I think in most cases new owner needs to use the old name or something that sounds close.

DH and I adopted a puppy last August, and IME it was easiest for my pets (dog or cat) to learn to recognize a two syllable name. I would recommend something like Bailey, which can be a male/female name. The first syllable ~bay~ is the same as Baby. I wouldn't even try to retain the "bear" portion of that name.

But really, with some reward based training (treats) and time - a dog can learn to respond to any name you want to give it. It's all a matter of preference, time and patience on the part of the owner.

The foster people tell me she doesn't really respond to that name anyway (LOL), so I guess I can start from scratch. It needs to be cute and not human sounding (like Beth, Janet, Beatrice, ect.).

I had a friend name his two old cats Please and Thanks.

That way he was able to get them to come to him and be polite at the same time.

Killed 2 birds with 1 stone really.

Just Bear. I don't think the name matters so much. My cats have a few names each, and they know which I'm referring to even though I use different names each time.
