i just got the following parts

cpu: intel Q6600
mobo: intel BOXDG33BUC
ram: corsair 2x TWIN2X2048-6400
hdd: western digital raptor 150gb

so i just got the parts yesterday
and i put it all together
and i put in the windows cd (xp pro 32bit)
and before windows even gets a chance to start
but after the formatting and copying of files over to the hdd
i get bsod

i do a little checking
and i find out that the ram i got was 1.9v
but my mobo only accepts 1.8v
also the ram timing is 5-5-5-12
but the mobo read 5-5-5-18
and there was no way to change this
so i figure this has to be the reason i get the bsod

so i rma the ram
and i go buy corsair 2x TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX
i wasnt planning on going up to 8gb
but its the only ram from corsair that has is ddr800 1.8v and a timing of 5-5-5-18
everything in the bios seems to check out now

so i go to install windows again
and now i can at least get the windows files copied from the cd to the hdd and started the actual windows install
but i still get bsod

idk what to do
any suggestions?

Reset the cmos, install (1) stick of ram, and change the timing to 5-5-5-15, it would be really bizarre if the mobo wouldn't let you change timing.

Also check temps, the retail cooler can be tricky to get totally flat, which can cause temps to spike quickly, contributing to BSOD, etc.

Dunno about that MB, but if you suspect RAM, download the bootable ISO of memtest86+ and let it run for a good hour... if you get no errors, your problem likely lies elsewhere.

cmos reset: done
1 stick of ram: done (2gb)
ram timing: im incapable of changing the timing and i have no idea why, it is 5-5-5-18
it simply does not give me the option, it is grayed out

the cpu temp is between 36c
mobo 45-50ish c
ich 75-80ish c
mch 65-70ish c

these temps were at idle in the bios screen after being on for a several minutes

but i did do the same install with an external fan directly on the mobo and without
and got bsod both times

ide and sata drives, got bsod both times

You can't install 32-bit Windows with 4GB of RAM installed, and most people say that 64-bit versions don't like being installed with 4GB's, either.

edit: The people I've seen say that were trying to load 64-bit versions of Vista, not XP. I'd suspect that it has more to do with motherboard/BIOS than anything else, at least with the 64-bit installing with 4GB installed.

Hmmm... might be a driver issue (SATA). You using the latest version and did you have to load it by hitting F6 when installing windows?

@myocardia - you're right about the limitation, but it shouldn't crash on him.

Check to see if there are any bios updates for memory issues. If you still have stability issues, you might have to do some more research, and swap the memory for a different brand. If possible, put in an rma request with your vender now, even if you decide not to use it. Most places charge a 15-20% restocking fee, unless you bought it at Fry's. They never charge a restocking fee.
