Moving HD from Asus P5K-E to Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P both Asus and Gigabyte
Use same chipset , but I cannot start Win XP x64 sp2 when I moving HD from Asus to
Gigabyte. Any ideas?
Well, the fact that they're using the same chipset doesn't really matter, they're still two differente boards.
As to moving a HD between two systems without re-installing Windows, I've never done that, so I can't offer any advice there.
Thanks for replay, but it was no problems to move hard dtive with same Win XP x64 from Intel 975 board ro Asus 965 , it did ask for drivers , but I was able to start windows....
Try the Xp repair function on the install DVD. This is documented in many places (google "motherboard installation windows repair"). Here's one such link: http://www.theeldergeek.com/replace_motherboard.htm
Basically, you are booting to the windows DVD, passing the first repair option, then taking the second repair option. I don't know if x64 changes this at all. Use at your own risk.
