I just installed Win2k on my other computer and noticed it didnt recognize my modem so I found a new driver for it. Well, now when I try to dial I get a blue screen that says something to the tune of "fatal exception" or something. Well, anyways, my computer restarts and I can't do anything. I noticed that the modem is on the same IRQ as the display adapter. Its also on the same one as my new NIC. All three components are on IRQ11. How do I change it? I have an EPoX 8k7a. I'm not using the NIC yet (for dorm), I just installed it to make sure it works. Should I take it out? Thanks.

PS Theres a possibility that I got the wrong driver, its really hard to find.

Most Socket A mobo's share an IRQ between the AGP slot and the first PCI slot. It's generally accepted that putting anything in PCI 1 is a no-no. Try another slot, but B4 you do, DL the latest driver for the modem and put it on your HD somewhere.

Funny, but I just loaded W2K yesterday (and today...messed up and started over!) and it already had drivers for my dialup modem preloaded. It loaded them automatically. It's a creative labs modem. A dialup modem's a dialup modem; I doubt they are much different driver-wise. Dont' mess w/IRQ's yet. This ain't 98. (RapMaster Mike in the House!) **rolleyes**

Try moving the modem first.

I have it in the bottom slot right now, but I'm going to try and move it. In the BIOS theres a part that says MODEM IRQ, but it was set to 3 when Win2k said it was on 11. I'm trying to find the new drivers, but its hard. Windrivers.com doesn't have the Win2k one. Why is it on the same IRQ as the NIC? Thats just stupid IMHO. They're both on separate PCI slots. I HATE IRQs! Thanks for the help.
