Any help would be appreciated. I was messing around trying to add dial-up adapters. It started installing it and then I got a prompt to insert the Windows 98 CD. I did, but tit said it still couldn't find the files it needed. I should have clicked cancel, but instead I clicked 'Skip File' and did that for the next 10 or so files. Was then told to reboot. When I did, I got this message.
"Cannot find a Device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows application.
The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file
no longer exists.
If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using
its uninstall or setup program.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try
reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.
vnetsup.vxd
dfs.vxd "

What do I do???

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help. Not that I'm doubting you, but I'm a little
wary when it comes to downloading programs off the net from
unknown websites. Any other ideas?

If that doesn't seem to do it then you can use:
Fast FTP

I know you said that you are wary of downloading from unknown sites, but I have never had a problem grabbing random files to patch up systems that have gone south with missing or corrupted files.

Good Luck.

You shouldn't have too much problem with the link Woodie posted, the file is a simple batch file that forces the installation of vxd's. Open it up and look at it, no big deal.

OK, another question now.
I searched for all the .cab files on my PC and found some named
Net7.cab, Net8.cab, etc. I opened them up and lo and behold I found
the missing vxd files I was missing! I then added a network dial up
adapter (Existing Ndis adapter). It started installing it and when I
was prompted for certain files that it could not find, I just found those
files in the .cab files and copied them to my WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder. The
installation finished and I rebooted and the error message is now gone. Although
I did see some message about Bindings flash on my screen during boot up. Also
it seems to have installed Network Neighborhood which previously wasn't installed.
(which I don't mind.. I actually nedded it.) My question is, was what I did ok?
Meaning, am I going to run into any problems since I just copied those files into
my windows/system folder? Hope that made sense. Thanks in advance.

Hi, that is easy to fix. go to run and then type regedit. once in there go to edit, then find and then type the file name and it will look for the registry key, once it finds that delete it, then press F3 and it will look to see if there are anymore keys. Repeat the step for the next .vxd file.
