Get yourself an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ ( w/ Barton core) processor...this CPU has the best bang for the buck, period.

The 266Mhz FSB chips are all T-breds as far as I know. Bartons have 512k of L2 cache and run at either 333Mhz or 400Mhz FSB.

What chipset is the board you bought? The RAM is rated for 333Mhz if it's PC2700, so the board would be the only thing stopping you from getting a barton 2500+.

via kt333 manual says only 200 and 266 chips are supported and also says that 333 DDR is supported, so i should be ok or do i need 266 DDR to go with it??

I guess the 2400+ t-bred would be a good chip to pair with that motherboard then. Did you just purchase it or did you already have it? If the former, I would consider retunring it and getting something newer, prefferably with an Nforce2 chipset.

You can run your 2700at 2100 without problems. That board is a little outdated though and there are better deals around.

OK, well if you wanna stick with the board, then i would still keep your 2700 as you can use it for your next upgrade. You could even consider getting a barton core chip anyway and running it at 266FSB and then upgrading the mobo when you feel like a speed bump.

They are multiplier locked, but you could still adjust the FSB up or down. It may be cheaper just to buy a 2400+ now and get a barton and a new board later on if you ever want to upgrade to it, come to think of it.
