Need help installing Windows on DS3

I'm having trouble installing Windows XP SP2 on my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. After I boot from the CD, I just get a black screen (after the BIOS stuff). I'm fairly certain it's got something to do with SATA. I have 2 SATA drives and 1 DVD-RW. If I unplug both the SATA drives and boot with the install CD, I do get into the Windows install.

I tried all the different settings for SATA in the BIOS. Right now, the native SATA mode is Disabled and the onboard SATA/IDE is Enabled and set to IDE mode. I tried all the different combinations but none of them seem to do anything. Help?

Windows should install with no problem. I have the same motherboard with a seagate sata hd and the computer booted from the windows install cd just fine. Try changing the sata port your using.
 
May I ask which SATA port and BIOS settings you used? I tried with a single HD on the orange (Intel) SATA port and also the purple (Gigabyte) port. Both did not work.
 
LOL you need to disconnect ALL HD's that are NOT SATA then plug them back in afterwords. Pretty straightforward and simple really. same problem last december with my WD 400GB 16mb cache drive on my DFI 250GB mainboard. also before you go and install Winxp SP2 on your machine make sure you have updated your BIOS on the motherboard before doing anything. the best thing is to use a Linflash or winflash if you already have a good version of windows to update the bios with.
 
I don't have any non-SATA drives. I'm just working with 1 SATA drive now. I can't really flash the BIOS because (a) I don't have Windows on the machine and (b) I don't have a floppy drive.
 
There should be a function in the bios that covers "Onboard SATA Operation Mode". Make sure it is set to non-RAID. Then you can install Windows.

If you want RAID functions you will have to have to set up a SATA driver disk and install that before Windows.
 
Go out and spend 15.00 on a damn Floppy drive or use a Flash drive and set the Cmos to boot from USB device. quite simple really 😀 I guess I read the information differently than you presented it. from what I did see you had other HDs that were present on the IDE LOL. I misread the portion about the CD/DVD drive I guess 😉 oh FYI you need an IDE drive to install your windows anyways, so put an IDE cd drive in there temporarily and swap it out later for the SATA.
