OK, so I'm on a Asus A8V-Deluxe mobo, with a samsung SATA hard-drive . To install XP I needed to make a Promise SATA378 driver diskette. I have NO clue where to find the equivalent of this for windows 7. Can someone help?

they should be included in win7, but if not just put the promise drivers on usb drive and there is an option that says load driver and point it to the usb drive and load the driver and should be good to go

The drivers I have don't work. They're only for up to XP. I tried. Said it couldn't find any signed drivers on the disk or something like that. The drivers are about 5 years old at this point.

Depends on what mode the SATA controller is in. Looks like that has a VIA chipset with a Promise PDC20378 SATA controller. Depending on what mode that controller is in (set in BIOS I would assume) you need to have either the RAID or AHCI driver. Searching for drivers for tha tcontroller it looks like they haven't been updated by Promise since 2003. If the OS installer doesn't see your drive connected there, you might be out of luck. However, you might want to try to set the mode of that controller to non-raid to see it it can see it then.

I just went into the bios and set it to Raid mode, and it still couldn't detect my hard disk. So basically everyone talks about how much better Windows 7 is, and how MS has turned a corner...but anyone who has a computer older than a few years (I built this one in 2005) can't get windows 7 or even vista?
