The vehicle is an 07 Acura RDX. My wife mentioned a "rattle" in the dash last week. Finally had a chance to take a look tonight.

It doesn't happen every time you turn the car on, but once in every 5-6 or so starts that white plastic piece starts to move intermittently. I would describe it as sounding like someone typing on a typewriter.

If you need context, that thing on the bottom left is the gas pedal. :p

Most likely the driver's blend door actuator. Either the plastic bit being moved is loose or not lined up right, or the motor has stripped internally.

Could also just be overtravel, either from a faulty actuator or somehow losing calibration. Calibration is typically not an issue unless work has been done.

Thanks for the response! I will have to research this.

I think the actuator may be bad. It is not really a rattle as in the white plastic piece is loose. It actually doesn't wiggle at all when I try to jiggle it. The white plastic piece is being moved in quick succession for about 2 seconds then stops for 15, does it for 2 seconds, stops for 15, over and over.

Yeah, the blend door itself is likely jammed. Those motors have an internal heat-breaker in them so that if they stall they will pop the breaker then reset once they've cooled. It's probably doing that over and over.
