Folks:

I have very strange problem. When I do I/O intensive work - Pericularly compressing DVD files or encoding DVD, my PC shut down due to over heating. I don't have any other instances similar problem. I kept my system running for few days -noproblem. I can burn CD/DVD without over heating.

My box contains

Intel MOBO with intel P4 2.8 CPU with HT
2 GB DDR2
One SATA 100 GB drive (reading and writting on same drive)
Antec P180 Box which is very well compartmentized, 3 Fans, Top, Back and near PSU.

Should I remove CPU fan and re-aaply cooling material or I should have two HD.

Thanks,

Shreeit

Get a better heatsink/fan combo and make sure you use a good thermal compound (make sure to apply a thin coat to the core only)

Just build last month, but case was open, I know there is much dust on heatsink fling/fan.
I will clean irst with air and start from there.

Watch your CPU fan to be sure that it doesn't stop running after a while. Also confirm that the heatsink is completely fastened to the motherboard.
