need help ...hd does not shut down...

fic au13 mb.... athlon 2600.... win xp

nothing changed or installed recently.......but now when I shut down the computer.... the system fan stays on and the power and hard drive lights stay on.....starting up the computer takes the same amount of time so I don't think it's going into a hibernate mode...I'm stumped......I notice I see a fic system option screen during boot up that I never saw before....I reset bios settings to default but no change.....any ideas...?

Sounds like a Windows problem to me. Tried system restore?

Tried a chkdsk c: /f ?

I tried chkdsk c: /f fixed some disk errors but not the shut down problem....tried system restore.....no luck with that either....

are you shutting down or suspending, hibernating?

it's shutting down.....it goes through the whole boot process when starting back up...

Possibly the power supply. Maybe it's not acknowledging the shut down signal from the mobo. Maybe the mobo isn't sending?
