NEED HELP!! HARD DRIVE ISSUE! what do i do????!!

ok, i wanted to do a clean install of w2k pro.
so i got my old drive and made it a slave and put in my new drive as master.
my old drive had 3 partitiions on it.
when i try to install by booting to the cd, i get a BSD. i was like wtf??!!
so, i go into the cmos to make sure the h/d's are there, .... the slave was there but the master wasnt.

so i figured out that the master wasnt a master so i fixed the jumper.

now, i booted up to the cd and things go smooth. when i get the part where i create partitions, it tells me that BOTH h/d's have NO partitions on them.

WTH!!?? my slave wshould have 3 partitions.

at this point, i took out the old and installed 2kpro on the new drive. then i put the old one back in to see if i could see it..... and i cant. i can only see it through computer managaement. however, the "disk 1" has a red dot with a white line through it .

is there anything i can do? can i recover the data? can i pay someone? i am so damn mad/sad/ depressed!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Don't know what happened, but having both drives as slave might have scrambled the partitions. I've done the same thing you have but have never had your situation happen to me.

Try putting the old drive back in as the only/master and see if it will boot to windows.

You could also boot from a floppy disk to DOS and run fdisk /mbr at the c: prompt and see if that will revive the partitions.

After that, I'm out of ideas.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you.

ok,

i tried putting in only the original disk and setting it to master. no luck. i get "invalid bood disk, insert .... A:"

as far as doing the dos thing, how do i do it? its been a LONG whiile since i booted to dos. please help! thanks!!!!

You will need a DOS boot disk. If you have a second computer available running windows 95/98, go to:

control panel
add/remove programs
windows setup (i think... should be center tab) ((sorry, i'm on a win xp system right now and don't have a 95/98 system available))
create a boot disk

Hopefully you have one available already.
You can make a boot disk from w2k also.

Put the boot disk in the floppy & reboot.

at the a: prompt type:
fdisk /mbr (that's a FORWARD slash)
and press the enter key.
