need help getting Windows XP Pro to recognize my 300gb hd

driggers

I recently purchased a Seagate 300gb hard drive. I want to use it as my master drive and a 160gb hard drive as a slave.

I formatted the 300gb drive and it only saw the limit of 128gb i believe. I installed Windows XP professional, and then I downloaded SP2. I also ran the reg_48bit_lba program. I am using a NF7-S v 2.0 motherboard.

I put two partitions on the drive. one 12 gig for windows so I reformat it whenever I need and the rest of the space which should be 288gb, but instead its only 116gb.

If you could offer me any advice so I can take full advantage of all my space.

Thanks!

You shouldn't need any reg hack with SP1 or SP2 to support that drive. The reg hack is for plain XP.

You need to format the drive again and re do the partitions. I would download the drive mfgs tools and use those to format and partition the drive in NTFS.

Just a warning, this isnt your problem but your 300gig hardrive isnt really 300 gigs, its less than that. Reason because 1 MEG does not equal 1000bits, but equalys 1024bits. But that doesnt throw you off by over 200 gigs. How did you create your partitions? I installed Seagte 250 gig on my system, I set my system (windows partion) up with 20 gigs, then installed windows on that. Once the all the windows updates (ie SP1) were installed I went into computer managment (ie: right click on "My computer" and click "manage") and went into storage then I created the remander of the partition (ie roughly 220ish)and formatted it and volia.

Let me know
