- Get high marks in high school (particularly math and physics)
- Get accepted to the electrical or computer engineering program at the university of your choice
- Graduate with a degree
- THEN you can think of designing a motherboard
My recommendation would be to contact some of the major motherboard manufacturers under the guise of looking for employment; then with a resume and cover letter detail what your career goals and interest are and see what comes up.
Another thought would be to contact trade associations dealing with this type of topic; possibilities like the Semiconductor Industry Association. Here's a message thread of a guy looking to recruit people for PCB Motherboard designing jobs - might be worth contacting as he may be able to put you in touch with industry officials with more info. HERE's what appears to be trade rag for engineer and technicians in the industry - again something to read over and consider contacting.
Just go to www.google.com and enter motherboard designers as your search terms - you'll get gazillions of hits!
