I just got done installing Win2k advanced server onto this spare PC I have. I'm turning it into another CS server for my LAN party and my own personal CS server during the week.
I have it hooked up to my DSL modem and I set it to use DHCP. The problem is that the Win2k PC never gets an IP address. It always says something like "unable to contact DHCP server" when I use do "ipconfig /renew" .

Right now I only have one NIC installed, it's a 3Com card. Windows tells me that it is functioning properly. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks.

this may be a dumb question but are you using the right cable (straight-through or crossover)? is your computer directly connected to the DSL modem or to a hub?

The cables are all fine and dandy. It just doesn't want to get an IP and gateway and what not. ANyway tech support told me that I can just enter the info manually as opposed to using DHCP, so my problem is pretty much fixed, thanks for replying though.

May not be the same thing but, my dsl provider had me setup a "Dummy IP" address to take care of that same problem, look in your dsl manual, or do a search at your dsl providers site for "Dummy IP address", where you'll find the address to plug in.
Hope this helps ya;)
