Specs:
* AMD 64 3000+ (socket 939)
* 2GB PC3200 Kingston HyperX Dual Channel DDR
* Chaintech NVF4 nForce 4 Ultra chipset
* Sapphire Radeon X300
* 2 x 120GB WD SATA hdds
* NEC 3520A 16x DVD+/-RW

Setup:

I'm getting an idle temp of 21ºC! :Q I'm used to 60ºC - 72ºC.

I'm running into a lot of problems though.

1) My existing ATX power supply doesn't exactly fit:

2) Installing WinXP SP1 or SP2 gives me BSODs upon login. IE crashes when I go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/, and I can't open up that page with Firefox. :|

3) I can't install WinXP 64-bit Professional, it gives me this error:

4) I can't run certain random programs like Outlook which gives me this error:

Anybody have any ideas? I'm kinda lost here. 😕

I haven't tried testing the memory, will do that now.

Edit: Searched some more stuff on the 24pin connector. Will be buying one off Newegg (once I can find it).

Edit 2: I found out I don't need a 24 pin adapter as long as I'm using the 20 + 4 (which I am).

A second attempt at installing WinXP SP2 worked (all other problems were fixed too) after not changing anything, which only leads me to believe that I may have faulty RAM.

AncientPC,

Can you give us an update? I'm thinking about building a system with the same Chaintec board. Is this board stable? I wondered about the 24pin power supply too. I have an Antec TruePower 430W PS now, and I'd rather not upgrade if I can get away with it. Also, did you have a problem installing the Zalman CNPS-7000B AlCU cooler?

Thanks!

In addition to the onboard ethernet problems, I can't use hot keys to boot up my PC (small issue, most people probably don't care).

It also hangs in BIOS when booting up, but I'm pretty sure it's because I've OC'ed the memory. I just need to power down and power up the system again to get it to boot.

The board is pretty stable, no BSODs yet despite overclocked (AMD 64 3000+ to 2.4Ghz).

You can use a 24-pin, or use the 20-pin and 4-pin connectors on the board (which I'm doing).

No problems with the Zalman cooler.

I've resorted to using a standard PCI ethernet card.

Outside of those problems, it's a good budget board to get the nForce4 chipset and socket 939.
