Okay, I've gone through 12 CDs in Nero trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I keep burning blanks, it seems.

I'm using Nero Burning Rom 5.0.3.8 to burn data CDs. I've tried various files, mostly DiVX'd AVI's, some ISOs, some plain old executables. All on a Yamaha 4416S. It runs through the steps properly, and spits out the disc at the end saying the burn has been successfully completed. I wait 10 minutes (I'm suspicious about how well the disc would work if I tried it immediately afterwards) to test it.

None of my drives recognizes the disc.

I just tried burning an Audio disc in sheer frustration. And wouldn't you know it, the disc played perfectly fine in my boombox.

I've tried using the Wizard, I've tried using Advanced. What am I doing wrong?

Multisession: No
File/Directory name length: ISO Level 1
Format: Mode 1
Character Set: ISO 9660
Joliet
Burn Action: Write, Finalize CD
Write Speed: 4x (600 KB/s)
Write Method: Disc at once
Cache files smaller than 64 KB

(hopefully) clarified the title.

You may not be able to record video cd's until Nero 5.5. For making audio disks, Nero does a great job of ripping mp3's on the fly. Nero has an extensive help file included with the software.

i just helped someone using NERO who had the same problem. it seems when they went to burn, some weird screen came up and it selected by default a virtual cd-writer (i have NO idea what the heck it was) instead of her actual burner....most people seem to miss this screen as it's easy to just click ok and then continue....i don't know if this is your problem at all, but it's just an idea. so i'll give you an even better solution: get different software! i think adaptec easy cd is better than nero.

I can indeed burn VCDs, I successfully used the wizard to do one before I had to re-install Windows 2000 about two weeks ago.

But I'm burning the AVI's as just that. AVI's, not as a VCD.

The burn seems to fail no matter what I file-type I choose. The only one I can properly pull of is an Audio CD burn. Which makes me think it's a software problem rather than hardware, since the drive IS burning and it IS reading normal CDs and CDs I've burnt previously.

That screen has been coming up lately as well, but I do select my physical drive to do the burn. I have the rings on the CDRs to prove it.

Okay, honestly, comments like that don't help in the least.

But for the record, it doesn't work in Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.03 either. Nor does it work in CDRWin 3.8C.

I DID find out that it is indeed burning stuff, except it seems to be burning it as an audio track. (?) I've tried doing a disc info in Nero and the program freezes. I did an info in Easy CD and it showed up as an audio track.

Though the computer won't load any Audio CD playing programs when the disc is inserted.

Ideas?

I just re-flashed my firmware to the latest version and I'm rocking and rolling again. Yay!
