Quick overview of my network. Webramp 700s linked to a couple hubs/switches with a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 serving two wireless clients and about 10 wired clients mixed in. Trying to hook up a DWL-800AP+ (using latest firmware) in access point mode to attach a media pc and PS2 on a hub in the basement. For the purpose of this experiment it's sitting <10' from the access point to rule out signal quality issues and it hooked directly to a single PC. I have a laptop sitting right next to me using a DWL-650 that's working like a champ.

Here's the deal, I've double and triple checked all my settings and can't find out why the 800AP isn't bridging to the rest of the network. Direct attached PC can bring up the web interface fine. It's IP address is unique, static and on the same subnet as the rest of my network. Verified ssid, default gateway, channel, wep is disabled (small steps, will renable later), set xfer to 1-2-5.5-11 (connecting 22 -> 11) are all correct, tried open and auto authentication. I did set both to open authentication and I have since been able to receive a whopping 5 packets on the Dlink (while dropping 2). Enabled broadcasting the SSID on the Linksys (something I don't normally do). WLAN light blinks on Dlink as expected when trying to connect to anything past it. Not running any type of MAC level authentication.

Actually tried calling Dlink tech support (don't waste your time) and they treated me like a 4 year old then hung up on me. I'm dying over here. Completely out of ideas. Any thoughts? Any successfully get this thing to work in AP mode?

Real unclear what your trying to do. You mention AP mode and then you describe what sounds like your trying to bridge, or perhaps use the AP as a workgroup bridge. Perhaps a diagram of what your trying to accomplish would help. The only way you would have the device in AP mode is if it is wired to your backbone infrastructure.

What you need is an Access Point that can be configured as a Client. You plug it to the Hub and connect with wires to the media PC, and the game box.

I am not familiar with the 800AP+. The 900AP+, and the Linksys WAP11, and WET11 are among the devices that can be configured as Clients.

Sorry if it was vague, I tried to describe in detail w/out writing a book. Per Dlink Tech Support (ingest salt grain now), I can use the 800 to link (I'll refrain from using the word bridge) 1 or more wired clients to the rest of my network. Insert ethernet into back of 800 from pc, configure everything I said in the first email and the 800 will provide the link between the wired client and everything else. The connecting to everything else is the problem.

Bridging is what you'll be doing. The second AP will be a workgroup bridge. Not sure what DLink calls it. I believe most of the SOHO AP's call it client mode. You have set the second AP to Client mode yes? Bridging is not part of the 802.11b standard. It might still work as it uses much of the same technology as an AP in infrastructure mode but there is no Wi-Fi certification for bridging so if you have set it up correctly that is what you may be running into. It should work, it just doesn't make any promises when bridging to different manufacturers.
