I have brought an unlocked samsung infuse. The phone works fine except it doesn't support gtalk video. After research I realized the phone needs 2.3.4 to use gtalk video, but since the phone is unlocked and I am on Fido, I don't think it will automatically updates. Right now the phone appears to be on 2.3.3.

Do I need to update the phone manually? If so how?
 
You can only get updates if the manu releases them and if the carrier sends them out (although nexus devices differ here). The alternative is to install a custom 'rom' from the community.
