You might want to check out Noise Ninja.

I've heard good things about Noise Ninja. So I take it the "banding" issue is a normal feature of the camera.

I would say so, but it seems to have verying degrees. Some say, if you take a photo with the right exposure, it's not a problem. Also, you might turn off noise-reduction.

come'on.. you are shooting at 3200.. you are letting so much light into the lens, what do you expect...

The plus side is that canons have an iso of 100.. great for day shots!.. but anything over 800 starts to get very noisy..

Nah. I shoot often with ISO 800 and sometimes 1600. The 20D/CMOS sensor excels at low-light conditions. Non-CMOS camers, like my A510, can barely take more than ISO 200.

I'll try turning off the NR. I haven't had time to completely tweak this camera.

Shrink it down in Photoshop and tweak it a little.

Another ISO800 Example (Tweaked)

Typically I use ISO800. I think I used ISO3200 for that batch of pics bc the restaurant people asked me not to use my flash.

I think the ISO is 800. There seems to be a lot of banding near the top. It also appears on a bunch of other pictures I took.

I never noticed this problem until just now.

i see jpeg artifacts....but banding ?
