I need your recommendations on something healthy to drink. It seems that water is the only thing recommended by doctors. I can't drink only water though, I probably drink a gallon or more of liquids a day and water gets old real quick.. I am trying to get myself off of pop and other sugar filled products so what do you think? Is there nothing I can do accept drowned myself in water?

The only drinks you'll find that don't have sugar will have caffeine in them (or alcohol). Alcohol and caffeine dehydrate you. Stick with water.

Non Sweetened Ice Tea...or if you are from the South where it is sacrilegious to drink Ice Tea that isn't sweetened use a little artificial sweetener.

Really anything that is caffeine and sugar free should be okay, in moderate amounts. In large amounts, water is always best. I hate it too, trust me.

Decaf tea is always good and if you have to, add articial sweetner but sometimes, in large amounts, that may give you a headache! 100% juices are good as well....if you like them and can find ONLY 100% juice...not as easy as one may think! :)

Edit Sometimes adding lemon to your water makes a difference...not to me, but others say it does! :p

Buy a juicer. Apples and other fresh fruit make healthy and tasty drinks. Even carrot juice is healthy (delicious and sweet).

Purified or distilled water is your best bet - Tap water puts a lot of people off drinking plain water.

Green tea is good - even black (but watch the caffeine) - with a little honey for sweetner.

here in UK, u can get these bottles of concentrated juice to add to water. all sorts of flavors, and u can get sugar or sugar free varieties. either way is better then pop.
8 glasses a day though? i can't do that, is it lower if you are younger?

To those recommending juice - notice how he said GALLON OR MORE OF LIQUIDS
If he drank juice it would be 1600 calories per day that he didn't need - all sugar.

I'd recommend crystal light; it's sugar free and as long as you don't mind the possibility of getting cancer :p you'll be fine. :)

Crystal Light is almost toxically sweet for my tastes, but the flavors are good. I usually just dilute the hell out of it :D

Fruit juice is nothing but sugar water.

You will never realistically meet your health goals unless you change your diet to one you can live with. Total abstinence from anything rarely does any good.

Moderate your intake of processed sugar and carbohydrates. Eat fresh vegetables, nuts, beans and poultry. Stay away from bread, pasta and desert.

Get some exercise. There is no magic needed to stay healthy.

herbal teas -- there are **many types**, and most do not need sweetening. You can make a big pot of it and then ice it :)

fruit juices will raise your blood sugar and add countless calories (if you are avoiding either of those things)

I forgot about that stuff!

It has almost too much aspartame for me though...gives me headaches on just a slight amount, so I resort back to water...sigh....

Thanks for the suggestions so far.. 100% fruit juices are out of the question, a gallon a day would kill me. I won't drink Crystal Light or any other drink that contains so much artificial sweetener.
The teas sound like a good idea. What types or brands of tea are good? Does anyone here drink allot of tea a day? I don't mind drinking caffeine because I think its actually healthy.

I'm not sure about the validity of the advice to stay away from carbohydrates. I've been told that pasta, rice, and those type of foods are complex carbohydrates and aren't that bad for you. Believers of the Atkins diet might disagree, but I pesonally don't mind carbs and I try to just eat low calorie and exercise regularly.

So far its been working very well for me and I've lost a lot of weight. Hey if a loser computer dork like me can do it and get a girl, anyone can, just be aware it does take time.

I personally like water a lot, I drink it filtered through a brita pitcher and it tastes pretty good and obvioiusly its healthy. Decent other options might be plain tea or coffee (no additives to it to make it taste better), crystal light, diet sodas, and skim milk. I'd say try to drink water only, other than a few glasses of wine for Thanksgiving and skim milk I haven't drunk much else for a while.

Some decent reference sites:

DISCLAIMER: Obviously I'm not a doctor and probably most of us are not, so take all this with a grain of salt and talk to a professional medical/nutrition expert.

There's a period of acclimatization, but once you're used to drinking water, you won't really crave the additional flavor provided by other drinks. I drink nothing but water during the day (although now, while the weather is cold, I do drink tea), and this is speaking as a former collegiate caffeine soda junkie. The best way to go is cold turkey -- continuing to drink other beverages only reinforces the psychological need you have for flavored beverages.

Although if you really can't do that, I seem to recall that there is a new wave of mildly flavored waters on the market now, but it's possible that these are thinly-veiled sodas with nonzero caloric content.

Also, herbal teas are caffeine-free.
